TOUR OPTIONS

OPTION 1.

A boat trip in the brackish Lagoon at Oviedo.

Because the lagoon is so shallow, the boatman gets out to push and the trip is quiet enough to bring one very close to Flamingoes and Roseate Spoonbills as well as other waders. The trip could also include continuing down the lagoon to an island where one can see the native iguanas…up close and personal….bring fruit! This is about an hour and a half west of the hotel, but an early start is required to avoid the winds that pick up mid morning. There is time to return to Santo Domingo in the afternoon. Price: $100 for boat and local guide.

OPTION 2.

Half day tour of the Botanical Gardens in Santo Domingo.

This tour is ideal for those who only have a short amount of time in Santo Domingo. The Gardens offer a delightful sample of the Dominican Republic's unique birds and vegetation. Price: $10

OPTION 3. Villa Barrancoli-- Rabo de Gato-- Puerto Escondido-----
----------------Sierra de Bahoruco-- View of the Valley--------

After many years of planning, the camping area in Puerto Escondido is ready for visitors.
Located within the buffer zone of the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park and within the Enriquillo UNESCO Biosphere, it is an ideal place to stay while exploring the most biologically diverse part of the island of Hispaniola. Tour participants are encouraged to stay here for the night before the long day in the cloud forest in order to make the early morning drive half as long and half as early. Another possibility is to stay another night and continue the Bay-breasted Cuckoo search the next day, before moving to the hotel in Barahona.

This small eco-tourism project is a joint venture of Tody Tours and a local community group.
The smiling cooks are the leaders of this group. Facilities include a living/dining room enramada, a kitchen, a bath house with 2 showers, 2 toilets and wash-hand basins, four shelters for tents and two closed in with wooden sides and screens, which now have 2 beds each. Tents, mats, sheets and sleeping bags are provided.

Villa Barrancoli Costs per night:

Screen Shelter and bed is $400 per person

Shelter, tent, mattress is $300 per person, $200 per person for 2, $150 per person for 3

Dinner is $350 per person
